Life
Skills Educator (Binghamton): This 907 hour position
with Mothers & Babies Perinatal Network will promote and
facilitate the Life Skills adolescent educational modules - a
component of the Teens Link, adolescent pregnancy prevention
program for Broome County. All aspects of the Teens Link
Project will be carried out through a team approach under
direction of the Youth Services Director and working closely
with Network Administration and the Community Coalition.

Tobacco
Control Associate (Binghamton):
One 907 hour position with the
Broome County Health Department. Assist tobacco control
staff with obtaining tobacco advertising reduction policies from
local tobacco vendors. Includes mailings and follow up contact
with vendors to educate them on the connection between tobacco
advertising and youth initiation of smoking. Assist
tobacco control staff with obtaining municipality resolutions
supporting the reduction of tobacco advertising. Research
tobacco control topics to assist with advocacy efforts
including: smoke free college campuses in New York State, smoke
free outdoor areas including entryways, parks and beaches.
Assist with smoke free housing advocacy work by developing
presentation materials and researching smoke free housing
progress throughout the US.

Eligibility
Counselor (Binghamton):
Assist uninsured patients served by the Hope Dispensary of the Southern
Tier and Lourdes Hospital in determining health insurance,
prescription assistance, and other services they may be eligible
for. The Eligibility Counselor uses a computerized screening
tool to determine patient eligibility.

Healthy
Lifestyle Associate (Owego):
This 907 hour
position with Cornell Cooperative Extension Tioga County
will assist with
nutrition and youth development programs with a focus on health
and wellness education. Assist with planning and
implementation of educational activities encouraging healthy
lifestyles focusing on physical activity and nutrition of
children and youth in Tioga County including the development of
written communications and promotional materials; attending and
conducting meetings; working with community partners and
funders. Conduct program activities in collaboration with
on-going CCE programs including Phoenix Kids Café in
Waverly, Family Resource Centers, Community Gardens and Farmers
Markets. Includes travel throughout Tioga County.

Project VIIBES (Voices Involved In Building & Enhancing Safety)
Program Assistant/Educator (Binghamton):
This 907 hour
position will assist Project VIIBES
Program Staff in all aspects of HIV and Sexually Transmitted
Infection (STI) prevention services; targeting Communities of
Color in Broome County. Prior experience facilitating
groups and delivering HIV prevention programs preferred;
knowledge of community resources; comfortable with and
experience working with communities of color preferred. Ability
to work with individuals on behavior change from perspectives
other than abstinence only.

Gardening and Local Foods Associate (Owego):
One 907-hour position serving
with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tioga County in Owego,
N.Y. This position focuses on local foods—on gardeners growing their
own food, and on customers purchasing from local farmers. The
Associate will assist with gardening education for youth and
adults and with initiatives to local connect farmers with local
customers. This position requires local travel (primarily) in
Tioga County. (20 hrs/weekly, starting January 2010).

The Rural Health Service
Corps is an AmeriCorps National Service Program administered by
the Rural Health Network of South Central New York. The purpose of
the Rural Health Service Corps is to provide meaningful service and
learning opportunities for young people committed to improving the
health and lives of those living in South Central New York State.
The mission of the Rural Health Network of
South Central New York (RHNSCNY) is to promote and improve the
health of rural communities and strengthen each community's capacity
to respond to health needs by reducing barriers and improving access
and use of health and human services through advocacy, communication
and partnerships." The RHNSCNY serves Delaware, Tioga and rural
Broome County.
